here is a step by step so you can make your own tootsie pop fish!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7072/7158695910_0da7448378_n.jpg" /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7270/7007646124_3ecf8c5c9c_n.jpg" /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
i always have a variety of fondant colors left over from other projects so i figured this would be a great opportunity to use them! have fun with the colors! you will also need some type of lollipops, i prefer tootsie pops because of their shape.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img src="http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5342/7153774039_b3b80966f6_n.jpg" /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
for the body of the fish i used wilton's 12 round frosting tip as my cutout. roll out the color of choice and cut out lots of circles. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img src="http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5339/7007657328_a681588856_n.jpg" /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
now cut the circles in half. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
you will also want to make your fins - three small triangles, lips - start with a small ball and then flatten and fold in half, eyes - two very small balls and tail - start with a rectangle and shape until you feel you have a tail shape. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
before you work on the body i suggest attaching the tail, top fin, eyes, and lips. use just a small amount of water to make them stick.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7186/7153782297_0f6bbe8b1f_n.jpg" /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
now you can start working on the body with your scales. simply place the half circles on the lollipop in columns. you can make them close together or spread them out a bit - you could even use multiple colors - do what you think looks right!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7115/7153785805_b744af7d85_n.jpg" /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
then attach your side fins - use the scales as a marker to match them up on each side.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7231/7158671978_25896734f5_n.jpg" /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
i used blue sugar to decorate the icing and create a water look. you could also use food coloring and make the icing blue. i hope you enjoy this fun project!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
catch you later!</div>nicolahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01646094350117272879noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3120152300679174835.post-65924241295063784142012-05-08T11:54:00.000-04:002012-05-08T11:54:12.139-04:00b.n.olast night was our second bloggers night out - can you guess which charlotte restaurant we went to?<br />

thank you lindsey for the awesome picture!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
this is only our second official gathering and it turned into 3 hours of big ideas! we have so many exciting plans for the upcoming months so stay tuned. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
of course i brought cupcakes and decided to experiment with a new "summer" flavor - so i found a key lime cupcake recipe on bon appetit. the ladies seemed to like them, but i may need to try and tweak it a bit. if you want to try it out, the recipe can be <a href="http://www.bonappetit.com/recipes/2008/09/key_lime_cupcakes">found here</a>. <em>note, for the icing i did my standard cream cheese buttercream and added lime juice instead of vanilla (just kept adding until i liked the flavor). </em></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
so did you guess the restaurant? we went to one of my favorite restaurants in charlotte, <strong>cowfish</strong>! here are my cow and fish cupcakes to celebrate great new friends and lots of big ideas. </div>

<br />
have you heard of a smash cake? this is a relatively new concept to me. the idea is just as it sounds - make a cake - small version - for the birthday boy or girl to dig into, no fork or spoon needed. typically it is for the first couple of years, but if you think about it we have a similar tradition with wedding cake for those that opt into the "face smash" method.<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
now if you have ever had the chance to watch this fun activity it is pretty hysterical - the kids look so confused at first, "you want me to use my hands, really?!" (if they could talk of course) - and then it hits them and let the fun begin. icing and cake everywhere and nothing but smiles. plus the occasional older sibling or party guest who tries to sneak a hand into the cake to join the fun. simply fantastic, loving the smash cake! <br />

i love a good crepe! my mom use to make me crepes for breakfast - and since i was picky basically just a crepe with powdered sugar - and they were amazing. i would have loved to give this spot a try, but i am sure they aren't as good as my moms!</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
i did get a chance to get my sweet fix - one of my best friends from college, ali, lives in boston and joined me for dinner. it was a night of delicious sushi, catching up, and lava cake. the cake was amazing but the real treat was catching up with ali!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: x-small;"><em>note: for some silly reason we never took a picture together, but i did get a few pics during dinner of the lava cake</em></span></div>

all of these pictures are from my favorite street in boston, newbury street. growing up, my mom and i would take day trips to boston with one mission - newbury street. it was always a day full of shopping, eating and the best quality time together. i love going back and seeing what has stayed the same and what has changed. even when everything is closed this street is just beautiful to walk down and window shop!<br />nicolahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01646094350117272879noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3120152300679174835.post-78934603607073393402012-04-11T07:53:00.000-04:002012-04-11T07:53:53.775-04:00you want fries with thati have seen burger cupcakes done so many ways, but i love them all. they are perfect for a cookout, which is the very reason i made them myself. usually i try to come up with my own ideas, but this one was too cute to resist. i took bits and pieces from others and added a few of my own touches - here is the result. they were definitely a hit!<br />

<div style="text-align: center;"><img src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7123/6912387724_ecabb96a57.jpg" /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">what you will need:</div><div style="text-align: left;">-rolos</div><div style="text-align: left;">-oreos - i suggest double stuf</div><div style="text-align: left;">-fondant - if you don't feel like making your own i suggest duff fondant which can be found at michaels or online - check this <a href="http://cupadewdledew.blogspot.com/2012/03/shout-out-charming.html">post</a> for more details</div><div style="text-align: left;">-cake pop sticks </div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><img src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7065/6912451464_07535fd09f_n.jpg" /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;"><strong>step one: wrap your rolo</strong> (this is optional)</div><div style="text-align: left;"><em>i wanted my rolos to look more like flower pots so by combining red and black fondant i was able to get a color i liked. you could skip this step and just have the rolo as a base</em> </div><div style="text-align: left;">roll out a strip of fondant the width of a rolo and long enough to wrap around. make the fondant as thin as you can without tearing. then wrap around (pressing as you go) just to the point of overlap. cut off the excess. i didn't need any icing on the rolo to hold the fondant but if it won't stay that could help. i then rolled out a thin strip to wrap around the top to complete my flower pot. </div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><img src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7188/7058478613_a4999b9ae4_n.jpg" /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;"><strong>step two: add some dirt</strong></div><div style="text-align: left;">twist off one of the oreo cookies. i broke that cookie in half and rubbed together to make the crumbs in a separate bowl. then with a knife use the oreo "stuf" as your icing (you can also use regular icing). cover the top of the rolo and add the oreo crumbs. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><img src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7132/7058477517_d7ac4f8da8_n.jpg" /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><img src="http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5193/6912394338_b19d244702_n.jpg" /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;"><strong>step three: bloom</strong></div><div style="text-align: left;">for the stem i used a cake pop stick and dyed it with green food coloring and cut to approximately an inch in length - however i would like to find an edible solution. i typically like my decorations to be 100% edible so i will be on the look out for something sweet to replace the stick. </div><div style="text-align: left;">i then created a bloom with a variety of spring colors. keep the flower simple. i suggest poking a hole into your bloom with the cake pop stick and then remove and add icing to help hold in place. once your flower is assembled stick into the rolo. </div><div style="text-align: left;">using green fondant make some leaves to rest on the dirt. use a little icing underneath to hold in place. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><img src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7099/6912393154_d046c829bc_n.jpg" /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">and there you have it! </div><div style="text-align: center;"><img src="http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5116/6912386616_b5ba37ff46.jpg" /></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />

<span class="facade-of-protection" id="yui_3_4_0_3_1333387528376_1257"></span><img class="loaded" data-size-id="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7127/6893112114_30ee0f64b2_b.jpg" height="286px" id="yui_3_4_0_3_1333387528376_987" src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7127/6893112114_30ee0f64b2_b.jpg" style="z-index: 2; zoom: 1;" width="400px" /></div></div>my dancers taught me a lot about the world of fondant. 1. black fondant can be tricky at times, 2. remember the size of your surface, 3. always think through how it will stand...i really liked how the dancers turned out but they would be better for a cake with a full surface to rest on. unfortunately these moves didn't make it onto the cupcakes, but it was a great experiment!</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />

the happy birthday was my first experiment with edible spray paint. i thought it was fun and had a graffiti feel to it. and of course every birthday cake needs a candle to make a wish! i hope it comes true heather! </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />

<br />
reason #1 - i was out of town for work. as some of you may know, i work in sports/sponsorship marketing and last weekend was the shamrock shuffle 8k in chicago. this is one of my favorite events, in one of my favorite cities, with an awesome crew and beautiful weather = fantastic weekend! here are a few pictures...<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;"><span class="facade-of-protection"></span><img class="loaded" data-size-id="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7244/6892299600_6793244a4b_b.jpg" height="239px" id="yui_3_4_0_3_1333379114020_993" src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7244/6892299600_6793244a4b_b.jpg" style="z-index: 2; zoom: 1;" width="320px" /><br />
took an early morning trip to visit the bean, which i highly recommend. it is so peaceful without the tourists and it allowed me to get this great picture.<br />
<br />
<span class="facade-of-protection"></span><img class="loaded" data-size-id="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7188/7038393723_fceebcb1f4_c.jpg" height="400px" id="yui_3_4_0_3_1333379302762_1051" src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7188/7038393723_fceebcb1f4_c.jpg" style="z-index: 2; zoom: 1;" width="298px" /></div><div style="text-align: center;">there i am in the bean (with my starbucks of course)<br />

my kicks for the weekend - cupadewdledew pink!!!<br />
<br />
<span class="facade-of-protection"></span><img class="loaded" data-size-id="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7269/7038392703_9a5cd5ee63_c.jpg" height="640px" id="yui_3_4_0_3_1333379745117_990" src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7269/7038392703_9a5cd5ee63_c.jpg" style="z-index: 2; zoom: 1;" width="490px" /></div><div style="text-align: center;">my favorite part of the weekend - so inspiring, can't wait for my upcoming half!<br />
<br />
</div>of course i couldn't leave chicago without a cupcake taste test, so before it was time to head back south i made a stop into sprinkles. you may recall my post found <a href="http://cupadewdledew.blogspot.com/2012/03/shout-out-24-hours.html">here</a> - about their cupcake atm (this isn't in chicago yet, so i couldn't give it a test run). i joined the crowd and waited in the line that wrapped around the block. ordered 4 cupcakes, no one needed to know they were all for me and my taste test. check it out below...<br />

<br />
but no worries i am back! <br />
<br />

<br />
<em>note: given the size of the candy i recommend using a mini cupcake, flavor of your choice.</em> </div><div style="text-align: left;"></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">start with the large version of swedish fish</div><div style="text-align: center;"> <img height="225px" id="il_fi" src="http://t0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRo5aiWarOiQb4iPsnfNtZ-j38CvuCULrw8rIJiXKsfzySObZEhborJkcBi" style="padding-bottom: 8px; padding-right: 8px; padding-top: 8px;" width="225px" /></div><br />
<div align="center"><span style="font-size: x-large;"><strong>+</strong></span></div><div align="center">sour patch fruits</div><div align="center"></div><div style="text-align: center;"><img height="185px" id="il_fi" src="http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1221/751759046_8f6358f04a.jpg" style="padding-bottom: 8px; padding-right: 8px; padding-top: 8px;" width="320px" /></div><div align="center"><a href="http://www.google.com/imgres?um=1&hl=en&rlz=1G1GGLQ_ENUS343&biw=1280&bih=661&tbm=isch&tbnid=EQ6oFWseL2D8ZM:&imgrefurl=http://www.candyblog.net/blog/2007/07/P16&docid=d675XzLYwbB8mM&imgurl=http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1221/751759046_8f6358f04a.jpg&w=500&h=291&ei=CHFmT97ADuKtsgLW3Ym3Dw&zoom=1&iact=rc&dur=241&sig=106713352142548031889&page=1&tbnh=129&tbnw=213&start=0&ndsp=20&ved=1t:429,r:4,s:0&tx=154&ty=60">image link</a></div><div align="center"><br />
</div><div class="photo-div" style="text-align: center;">cut the swedish fish in half and then cut the pointy side in half again. the cut sections will be sticky so you shouldn't need icing to connect. stick the top section together making sure to leave a space to create the sail. use a fruit slice for the base and stick on the sail. you may need icing to keep the sail and base connected. using blue icing or white icing with blue sprinkles cover the cupcakes for water. a fun and easy to make your cupcakes set sail. </div><div align="center"> </div><div class="photo-div" style="text-align: center;"> here is the result!<br />
